Abstract: As a national system, social rescue is related to, but different from, social relief. Social relief is a temporary rescue measure and mostly found in unexpected disasters, such as natural disasters, dangerous diseases and so on, causing heavy loss and threat to a portion of social members life and property. Social rescue, as a responsibility of the government, is a longterm rescue system, aiming to rescue certain social groups. As the governments responsibility to provide longterm rescue to some social groups, social rescue is part of the social security system, ensuring the lowest living standard for those who suffer from disasters and have lost working ability and for the lowincome citizens. The involvement of social work in social rescue is a new task for social management. This article starts from urban community social work practice and analyzes and explores ways for social work to get involved in urban community social rescue.
