The Development of Social Work and Volunteer Service in China

Abstract: Through an analysis of the historical development, types and characteristics of the relationship between the social work and volunteer service and on the basis of the cooperative development experiences of social work and volunteer services in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Hong Kong, this paper puts forward the principle of “direction by government, participation by citizens, management by social groups, supervision with regulations” as an interactive and coordinative development mechanism for social work and volunteer service.
