Abstract: Abstract: Lingnan local chronicles and inscriptions contain a lot of materials concerning traditional operas, which not only serve as a record of the conditions, performing forms and social cultural environment of ancient Lingnan singing and dancing music and early operas, but also reflect the official and social attitudes towards them. These materials include local music and dances, traditional music from central China, festival celebrations, as well as some creations and criticisms. As important literatures, they are of great value for studying the forms of early traditional operas and their formation.
