    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2014, 14 (1): 12-18.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (1021KB) ( 2369 )

Abstract: This survey shows a positive correlation between parents’ input in their children’s education and the reward from their children. Through the questionnaires from 54 parents in rural areas in Guangdong Province whose children are university graduates and now work in cities, this paper investigates how rural graduates reward their parents in such aspects as annual financial reward to their parents, emotional communication with their parents and influence of education input on the parents. With the parents’ willingness to follow their children to cities or stay in rural communities to support themselves as a variable, the paper tries to find out the factors influencing the selection of patterns for providing for the rural aged parents from the perspective of both the parents and their children. The result reveals that the selection of patterns for providing for these parents is less influenced by their children, although most of them would like to follow their children to live in cities.

    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2014, 14 (1): 25-31.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (1308KB) ( 2240 )
Abstract: Despite the certain success in the relief of street children in China in the recent decade there exist some problems both in the relevant academic research and the practical relief work. Academically, there lack diversified research participants, reasonable research systems and sound research conditions. Practically, problems such as imperfect relief policies, strong administrative features, low level of socialization of the relief participants and loose interregional collaboration severely affect the human, profession and societyoriented development of street children relief work. There is an urgent need for strengthening the related research, establishing the administrative system for street children welfare and corresponding welfare policy and service systems, and developing the mechanisms for both social work agencies and nongovernmental organizations to participate in the street children relief work.

Convergence and Independence——An Exploration of the Relationship between Social Work and Psychological Counseling
    JIANG Hai-Yan
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2014, 14 (1): 32-39.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (1543KB) ( 2426 )
Abstract: The relationship between social work and psychological counseling is complicated. This paper points out their similarities and differences and reveals their convergence and independence. Their differences lie in the properties of practice on the one hand and theoretical foundation and working method on the other. Social work practice is social and welfareoriented, whereas psychological counseling is individual and contractbased. Psychological counseling emphasizes indepth psychological communication with individuals, while social work practice pays more attention to the concept of “person in the circumstances”. The two have much in common with regard to professional help, focus of attention and professional ethics. The relationship of social work and psychological counseling is influenced by discipline specialization, esp. positivistic thoughts, which contribute to their indistinct relationship in practical areas.

    MA Gui-Xia, YE Shi-Hua
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2014, 14 (1): 45-51.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (1248KB) ( 2327 )
Abstract: With the advancement of public service reforms, the practice of government purchasing social work services from social work institutions has moved a step forward. The working mechanism for government purchasing social work services, as is practiced in Shenzhen, has produced positive effects. It is made up of institutionalized funding method, competitionbased contractual relationship and thirdparty evaluation. However, in the national context where a social service purchase law is expected, the working mechanism of government purchasing social services is neither perfect nor transparent. It is necessary to gradually improve the policies and laws related to social work services, establish the financial support system concerning purchase, optimize the operational process, enhance intersector collaboration to integrate resources, broaden the area where social service organizations participate in public social services, and strengthen the construction of organizations’ credibility and their evaluation and supervision.

    CAO Zhang-Qing
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2014, 14 (1): 73-78.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (1493KB) ( 2260 )
Abstract: A Complete Collection of Ci Works in the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, compiled by Zhang Zhang and Huang Ta, includes 37 palace sorrow ci works in Tang and the Five Dynasties. In terms of the emotional orientation of the writers, these works can be divided into three types: those expressing sorrows on behalf of the women secluded in the palace, those expressing sorrows through the mouth of the women secluded in the palace, and those expressing both types of sorrows. In terms of artistic expression, these works employ three main devices: description and highlighting, elaboration and extension, projection and metaphor. The Tang Dynasty palace sorrow ci works borrowed from the Tang Dynasty palace sorrow poetry in terms of images and ideas as well as structure and language, while those of the Five Dynasties had their own style. As a result, the clue can be seen of the evolution of the Chinese palace sorrow ci works.
