Abstract: Multisubject collaboration is an effective approach for connecting urban renewal and community governance. As emerging components of community governance, social work and social design share similarities in service beneficiaries, professional concepts, and professional openness, which facilitate their cross-integration and mutual learning in the governance process. Taking the Caojiaxiang community of Chengdu as an example, this paper constructs a dual-discipline collaborative governance model of “social work and social design” from the perspectives of dynamic mechanisms, structural elements, and collaborative processes. It also summarizes the influencing factors and characteristics of the dual-discipline collaborative governance model. The two-discipline collaborative governance of “social work and social design” arises from the interaction of various structural elements driven by power and produces synergistic effects through a multi-level collaborative process of “knowledge dialogue-vision integration-system formation”. Its synergistic effect is affected by the functional capacities of other stakeholders, institutional settings, and others. The synergistic characteristics underscore the discipline-specific traits, the equal status between the two disciplines, and their respective professional advantages.

Key words: social work, social design, collaborative governance of two disciplines, model
