Abstract: A marital quality survey among 213 adventive marriage couples and 292 local marriage couples in rural area of Wujiang City, Jiangsu Province, China finds that the overall evaluation scores for marital quality from different types of objects are all more than 70 points. Adventive marriage couples and localmarriage couples possess similar marital quality except for their satisfaction with material life. Adventive factors do not affect any dimension of marital quality. The reasons for the similarity include social modernization, reduced discrimination against outsiders and their families, selection mechanism of adventive marriage, relatively simple family relationships, and adjustment strategies taken by outsiders and their families.
