How to Improve “Indepth Interviews” ——The Application of Social Work Skills in the Interview

Abstract:  Indepth interview is one of the most important research methods of sociology. Casework interview in social work bears some similarity to indepth interview in the process of practice. Despite the difference, social work skill plays a very important role in indepth interview. In this article,the author first compares the “social casework interview “ and “indepth interview”. Then, combining with practical experience, the author discusses the effect of social work skills to indepth interview. The author finds that, on the one hand, the skills such as “the preparation of social work interview” and “building interview relationship” are particularly effective to indepth interview of “unfamiliar target” ;on the other hand, the skills such as “interview site selection”, “interviews time controlling”, “the process of interview”, “the use of interview tools” , “introspection of interviews” and so on, can have a universal role to improve indepth interviews.
