The Role and Measures of Social Work in Promoting Social Integration among Migrant Population

Abstract: Social work plays a special and important role in promoting social integration into urban life among migrant population. It tries to appeal to the government for the transformation from administration to service and assist migrant population with self-management and self-service. Moreover, social work can also empower the individual migrant and promote collective integration. The government, social work organizations and social workers can all actively promote the work from their respective channels for such a purpose. The governments can increase capital input on more public welfare projects. Social work agencies can develop positions and projects to serve migrant population. Social workers need to enhance their sense of mission and responsibility, improve their ability and professional service. With the guidance of the empowerment theory and on the basis of extending social support networks and community development model, social work service can promote migrant population's social integration into city life.
