Abstract: In view of the phenomenon of parent-child conflicts in low-income families in Shanghai, this paper designed, implemented and evaluated the family education guidance intervention program. 240 low-income families were randomly selected from 10 neighbourhood in a district of Shanghai, half of which were randomly assigned to receive education and guidance for 8 months, leaving the other half for control group which only received regular welfare benefits. There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in parent-child communication, parent-child conflict frequency and parent-child conflict form.Compared with the control group, the experimental group significantly increased parent-child communication and reduced the frequency and form of parent-child conflicts. Educational intervention for low-income families can effectively improve parent-child relationship. The intervention path of enhancing parents' knowledge and increasing families' hope to improve parent-child conflict emphasizes the recovery of positive functions of families themselves, which is in line with the value orientation of social work. So it can be further promoted and evaluated in urban poor families.

Key words: intervention, low-income families, parent-child communication, parent-child conflict, educational guidance, poor families
