This article systematically sorts out the activities of social work teams and agencies during the epidemic to discuss the key issues of social work restoringsociality, and then further discusses the long-term development of social work during and in the post-epidemic era. The study found that in the face of the epidemic, the social work profession shows the possibility of restoring sociality in terms of rebuilding community resilience, activating social bonds, providing social support, and making disadvantaged groups visible, and it also devotes itself to social recovery and reconstruction after the epidemic. Nevertheless, in terms of professional status, institutional structure and state-social relationship, social work is faced with fundamental challenges in restoring sociality, and it also encounters the limitations brought by the strong state mobilization. As a society-oriented profession, social work should be devoted to changing the current system and social structures by providing social services.

    ZHAO Fang, ZHU Ning
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (2): 15-23.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (688KB) ( 3051 )
Bereavement is a major traumatic event for children, and bereaved children will face arduous adaptation tasks. Studies have shown that not only children who have difficulty adapting after bereavement, but all children who have lost their parents will benefit from some time-limited interventions. This study adopted the Scoping Review proposed by Arksey and O’Malley and searched 3 domestic electronic databases and 5 foreign English electronic databases. Some problems are discovered after standard screening and extraction: intervention services for bereaved children, few as they are, mainly focus on individual cases and group interventions, failing to establish a sharing and inter-linked service mechanism. Most of relative studies rely on individual cases, which lack design and tools for scientific and rigorous evaluation and long-term return visits. On the other hand, overseas studies on intervention services have developed into a scientific system, which is characterized by multiple types of intervention, interdisciplinary groupwork and scientific paradigm. In conclusion, it is suggested that under the current domestic conditions intervention services for bereaved children should be incorporated into the child welfare service system. Besides, an effective mechanism should be established utilizing the characteristics of local culture and the advantages of professional social work and combining preventive and therapeutic intervention strategies to render service and help tomore bereaved children.

As the number of bereaved parents is on the rise in China, it is worth investigating their social adaptation. Through long-term field interviews and follow-up researches, it is discovered that their adaption dilemma is not only rooted in structural factors and connected with individual agency, but also contains abundant cultural and psychological elements. They are generally suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and somatization disorder, cultural trauma, situational ritual disruption, social role confusion and alienation from acquaintance. On this basis, this paper proposes to adopt casework, group work and community work to help them adjust their self-cognition and social identifications, integrate the internal function building of their self-organizations and improve the service supply capacity of community agencies. All these methods will be utilized to resolve their adaptation dilemma and help them reintegrate into the society.

    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (2): 32-40.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (834KB) ( 2716 )
Taking the Crime Prevention Theater as the case study subject, this paper uses different methods, such as participant observation and in-depth interview, to discuss the characteristics of this new approach of social work intervention, especially that of the empathy intervention. This paper finds that Crime Prevention Theater can connect with teenagers’ life and create empathy experience, thus it can realize the cycle of empowering learning and thinking and gain higher acceptance from teenagers. The basis of empathy intervention is to stimulate the empathy experience of teenagers, while the core is to create the link, space and form of dialogue, where the “empathy experience” can be transferred to expressible words or actions and emotions turn into rational thinking. What’s more, return visit and case tracking are to evaluate the effectiveness of Crime Prevention Theater. The theater also helps social workers develop and train their empathy skills, strengthen their understanding of teenagers’ plight so that they can better learn the dynamic state of teenagers in real time during theater interaction and then improve participation, critical thinking and empowerment of teenagers.

    CHEN Wenhua
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (2): 41-48.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (720KB) ( 2931 )
Elderly Care is the most realistic dilemma faced by groups who have lost their only child (“shidu”). In the unique social context of China, such problem of bereaved women deserves special attention. As the current elderly care plan based on the pathological concept cannot effectively address this problem, a new idea emerges from the perspective of empowerment that integrates individual needs with macro-structure changes. The study finds that the dis-empowerment of bereaved old women is caused by the lack of life resources and insufficient efficiency on the individual level, the negative interaction and self-exclusion for social contactat the interpersonal level, the policy defects and structural oppression on the institutional level. In order to strengthen the elderly care for bereaved women, efforts should be made to inspire their sense of competence, strengthen education of the public and construction of socialized pension mode, wipe out discrimination, improve the institutional construction that features equality and justice. These are important paths for the transformation of elderly care from dis-empowerment to empowerment.

Through survey of 1298 healthy adults who have siblings with ID, it is set to analyze their contact behavior and (duty and voluntary) motivation in the sibling relationship, related predictors, and examine the mediation effect of contact motivation in the relationship. It is found that contact motivations are significantly related with contact behaviors among siblings. Contact motivations are affected by factors such as gender, age, martial status, economic condition, number of children and housing arrangement, while contact behaviors are affected by factors such as martial status, economic conditions, deformity level of ID siblings and housing arrangements. The mediation effect of contact motivation is obviously existent and the influence of duty motivation is more apparent. The study indicates that giving importance to the psychological motivation in the interactions of healthy siblings with ID ones will help us know the development of the relationship and predict the probability of healthy siblings participating in the family care of ID ones. Disability social work should pay more attention to the effect of sibling relationship in family service.

Employee Expectations, Organizational Accountability and Legitimacy: The Establishment of Internal Legitimacy in Social Service Organizations
    ZHANG Chao, ZHANG Jiayuan
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (2): 68-75,84.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (931KB) ( 2363 )
Since most of the existing studies on legitimacy of social organizations merely focus on external research, it is worth discussing the establishment of internal legitimacy recognized by staff through taking the NC Joint organization in Hangzhou as a case. The study finds that it is the dynamic interaction between employee expectations and organizational accountability that establishes the internal legitimacy of the organization. Besides, opposite to the previous conclusion of Expectancy Theory, they are mutually interdependent. The prerequisite of high internal legitimacy is the incentive compatibility between staff and organization. For one thing, the establishment of internal legitimacy in social organizations is different from that in enterprises or governmental organizations. The former one emphasizes more on the inner motivation and task autonomy of employees. For another, social organizations take more initiatives to their internal legitimacy than the external one. Therefore, expectancy management of staff should be taken into the administration of social organizations.

    ZANG Leizhen, CHEN Nuo
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (2): 85-94.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (747KB) ( 2494 )
Since the mid and late 19th century, social policy as a discipline has been paid more and more attention. With the uncertainty and globalization of social risk become more prominent, the academic and practical value of social policy needs to be further demonstrated. However, the discipline of social policy in China, compared with that in other countries, is still in its infancy.Along its centurial development, social policy abroad has not only taken shape and become completely systematic, but also realized its iterative process in its constant interaction with practice. However, social policy has accumulated a lot of Chinese experience in practice, but the discipline consensus has not been reached, and the academic accumulation and discipline construction are far behind the practice process. Based on this, the discipline construction of social policy in our country should start with promoting the development of academic field and the independent accumulation of academic system, promoting the discipline establishment and talent training system in colleges and universities, responding to the reality of China as the highest value pursuit, and responding positively to international concerns.
