    XIE Yang, CHEN Binli
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 5-14.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (727KB) ( 2615 )
School bullying can negatively affect the physical and psychological health of adolescents and it has gained wide attention due to its frequent occurrence. To investigate the relationship between the different roles of adolescents in school bullying and depression levels, this study adopted a stratified whole-group sampling method to conduct a questionnaire survey of 3 531 students in 10 secondary schools in Chongqing City and Jiangsu Province. It was found that 52.3% of the students were involved in bullying, of which 13.4% were bullies, and 18.7% were bullied, and 20.2% were both bullies and bullied. Among the depression level subgroups, 44.8% have no symptom of depression; 31.7% were mildly depressed; 20.4% were moderately depressed; and 3.1% were severely depressed. Ordered logistic regression analysis revealed that the different roles of adolescents in school bullying were associated with depression levels. All three role groups involved in bullying had higher levels of depression compared to the control group, i.e., the group not involved in bullying, with the highest levels of depression among the bully-bullied. The study suggests that future school bullying prevention and intervention should expand the group to include multiple roles in bullying.

Believing in Experience Beyond Experience: A Study on Elevating Teacher’s Gender Consciousness through Interventions in Gender-Based School Bullying
    PEI Yuxin, CHEN Jingwen
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 15-22.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (748KB) ( 2468 )
This study is based on a teacher training program that targets at gender-based school bullying, aiming to explore China’s practices of and contributions to combating school bullying. Through participatory observations and in-depth interviews with 17 teachers, this study proposes that teachers’ gender consciousness is rooted in social culture. Gender consciousness is not shaped from nothing, but through a pluralistic process of reflecting on traditional gender norms, breaking inherent gender stereotypes while understanding, accommodating, and accepting gender and sexuality. Applying a variety of social work methods, we link teachers’ self-growth experience and creatively inspire them to “believe in experience beyond experience”, which accelerates the awakening of trainees’ gender consciousness, enhances their recognition of gender-based bullying, promotes their intervention strategies and self-efficacy. In view of this, this study has important theoretical and practical significance.

    ZHANG Le
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 30-45.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (847KB) ( 2072 )
In the field of higher education, the development of professional education is affected by the dual qualities of social work and the external opportunity structure. When social work major is slow to develop due to adverse factors such as less historical accumulation, insufficient localization and lack of external support, the internal opportunity structure of school becomes a key factor in determining the success or failure of social work education. The case analysis shows that structural forces inside a university put social work major in a disadvantageous position in the whole discipline system of a university through a series of marginalization such as negation of competence, deprivation of development opportunities and structural solidification. It has significantly weakened the effectiveness of the self-development of social work major, profoundly affected the cultivation of social work professional qualities, the accumulation of professional capabilities and the play of professional functions, and brought a serious professional crisis to social work. Reducing the dangers of marginalization and resolving the development crisis requires the joint efforts of social work major and universities to truly achieve the connotative development of social work professional education.

Research on the Dilemma of Professional Social Work Intervention: Based on the Perspective of Community Regulator
    XU Hua, ZHAO Yuxiao
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 46-53.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (636KB) ( 2206 )
How professional social work can “get involved” in the original community service system and survive and develop has always been an important issue in academic and practical circles. Among them, the attitude of community regulators to professional social work is an important factor. The attitude of community regulators towards the “intervention” of professional social work is influenced by two aspects: in terms of community operation, construction and development, it is mainly a “cost-benefit” comparison, which is used to judge whether the intervention of professional social work is “useful”; in terms of the community management system itself, it is mainly the “immune response” effect, which is used to judge whether the intervention of professional social work is “harmful”. The two factors are closely related and work together to determine the community regulators’ attitude towards the intervention of professional social work. Professional social workers should actively adapt to the community, take proper care of the community regulators’ own needs, and try to enlist the support attitude of community regulators, so as to better promote the deep “intervention” of professional social work.

    GUO Jinmeng, HAN Yangdi
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 54-62.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (732KB) ( 2561 )
Along with the longitudinal and in-depth advancement of emotional researches, the public’s understanding of emotions has surpassed the previous essentialist pursuit and uses constructivism to interpret and manage emotions. As professional helpers, social workers manage and use emotions throughout the entire process of helping others, which means that social workers who use interpersonal situations as their work background will face the risk of emotional stress beyond the normal level. At present, the emotional labor of social workers is regarded as the work behavior that relies on professional skills and contributes to negative effects, showing the characteristics of using professional skills as a tool, maintaining professional relationships as a guide, and increasing personal costs as a consequence. The emotional labor of social workers is affected by personal factors, role identification, and organizational environment, and produces protective, preventive, and transferable major coping strategies. This article suggests backing up the emotional labor process of social workers in terms of providing a supportive organizational environment, promoting the flow of social resources, and emphasizing educational development, so as to promote the improvement of the social work service system.

WANG Jie, YE Xiong, WANG Yingxia
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 63-71.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (732KB) ( 2350 )
In the field of social work, the research and application of ritual therapy are extensive abroad but limited at home. According to literature review, the mechanisms of ritual therapy are presented as follows: In the psychological dimension, it can produce a placebo effect and the peak experience inspired by rituals has the effect of psychotherapy. In the emotional dimension, rituals help to express feelings and provide a high degree of emotion energy. In the cognitive dimension, rituals contribute to cognitive internalization and identity transformation. In the dimension of social relationship, rituals can promote group belonging and enhance social support. Four different types of rituals —— rites of passage, periodic rituals, celebrations, and ritualized activities —— are available to different situations in social work practice. In view of the logical framework of social work services, this paper puts forward practical guidelines of ritual therapy in the following different stages: preliminary estimation, the design and performance of rituals, and post-evaluation. Professional skill is a necessary way of achieving human change. The exploration of ritual therapy has a positive effect on developing the professional skill of social work and enhancing professional services in social work.

The Social Characteristics and Prevention Strategies of Child Sexual Assault
    FENG Yuan
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 72-77.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (680KB) ( 2430 )
The social causes of child sexual assault are complex and diverse, but the social characteristics of its occurrence are rather significant. Judging from the data on child sexual assault released by relevant parties in China, there are social characteristics such as higher victimization rate of girls than boys, sexual assaulters being mostly acquaintances, low reporting rate of sexual assault, and sexual assault prone to high-risk families. Under the new situation of child protection in the new era, the establishment of a multi-dimensional sex education mechanism, practical and easy-to-use sexual assault early warning and evaluation indicators, a flexible and linked mandatory reporting mechanism, and a precise focus on “potential” sexual offender identification and intervention mechanisms are an important path for improving the effectiveness of prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse in China.

Research on the Protection Policy of Unattended Children Based on the Theory of Welfare Triangle: Taking Shanghai as an example
    HUANG Chenxi, CHEN Ting
    SOCIAL WORK AND MANAGEMENT, 2021, 21 (3): 88-96.
    Abstract    HTML ( ) PDF (868KB) ( 2153 )
The needs and causes of unattended children are very complex, which are the sore points and difficulties in the protection of children in difficulties. Based on the welfare triangle theory, it is found that the lack of ability and willingness of family guardianship is the fundamental reason for these children, and the market and society cannot provide the proper protection function, which makes these children face the overall challenge in physical and mental health. The existing laws and system design cannot fundamentally solve the problem of who will supervise and how to supervise. It needs the cooperation and integration of the government, family, society and market to form a joint force for the protection of children in prison.
